Garden Project
It's a small haven of peace amid the bustle of Academy life but with several major developments recently taking place at Tollbar, it has been sadly neglected.
Now thanks to a group of IB students, the secluded garden behind the Technology buildings has taken a new lease of life and is well on the way to becoming a pleasant area for staff and IB students to work, eat and relax.
Chief Executive, David Hampson, has been very supportive of the project, providing some funds for helping the scheme get off the ground. A group of seven students put a very detailed business plan together, based on their research and staff and student surveys. Two students, Kate Smith and Charlotte Pilter, took part in a Dragon's Den event where they were grilled by the Dragons but were actually awarded £450 to go towards the garden.
With the support and guidance of custodian, Ian Robinson, the team have already created a vegetable patch, re-designed the pond area, built a ramp for disabled access and re-laid a patio area.
Four members of the team also recently took part in a School's Challenge which was held at the Lincolnshire Show. Ben Cardy, Scott Neumann, Jake Smith and Joe Ward had to produce displays and deliver a 20 minutes presentation to judges illustrating the nature of the project. Both judges commented on the professionalism of their presentation and the very worthy nature of the project as a whole.
The team are now looking forward to seeing the fruits of their labour over the next few months.
