It's A Worthwhile Course
I am writing with regards to the International Baccalaureate (IB) that Tollbar offers.
I have just received my results for the IB and I am very interested in all the speculation that surrounds the course.
I do believe, however, that you cannot truly understand the course unless you have or are participating in it. It is a very hard, rigorous course which takes a lot of time and energy.
Obviously I have not participated in A-level courses so I couldn't possibly speculate how hard they must be and the strains that the exams and course puts on a pupil.
It cannot, however, be compared, the only thing that could possibly qualify as a comparison is a university place, received or not received.
The IB is very hard, and anyone who even has the focus to get through the two years should be commended regardless of the grades received. It is easy to deem something a fail simply because not enough people gained grades that were hoped for.
However, the IB was a success, it has managed to run for two years, and is still running with many dedicated teachers doing their best to adapt to the changes.
Simply, I wish to say that all IBers and teachers should be congratulated on having the commitment required. It is truly unique and I think everyone will have benefited from the experience.
If I were to choose again between A-levels and IB, I would choose IB.
Best wishes to all the students still taking the IB and those looking to take it. It is a worthwhile course.
