Sixth form facilities



You will find Tollbar BEC Sixth Form campus is completely independent from the main school areas and offers you superb facilities. The campus consists of 18 designated classrooms, the majority of which contain an interactive white board.

Specialist facilities include:
  • three fully-equipped science labs with data-logging facilities
  • a fully-equipped computer room for ICT
  • computer-based listening facilities for languages to complement the two Divace Language labs
  • high-specification sewing machines with computer-aided design facilities for textiles and CADCAM facilities, together with a laser-cutting machine for resistant materials technology
  • a newly-refurbished and equipped photography suite with darkroom and high-specification colour printer and a large, purpose-built Art studio equipped with a specialist projector.
  • a state-of-the-art gymnasium
  • conference-style accommodation for business studies.
The Study Area
 
Aside from the classrooms equipped with computers, the study area currently contains 20 additional networked computers specifically for your use, so that you can carry out independent research, prepare presentations and complete coursework. 

The Library

You are also welcome to use the fully-stocked library service at Grimsby Institute.
The Institute has three libraries, supporting FE, HE and Art courses, and offers books,  periodicals and newspapers – paper and electronic, videos/DVDs, internet access, online subscription databases, printers and photocopiers.

During term time the libraries are open from 8.45am-4.00pm. The HE Library is also open 9am-12pm on Saturday mornings during term-time.

Café Express and Sixth Form Social Area 

Café Express provides everything from paninis to jacket potatoes, hot and cold sandwiches and a variety of drinks.  The cafe is open from 8.00am until 3.00pm and you can gather here for lunch or mid-morning/afternoon snacks. 

Adjoining the cafe is the sixth form lounge, which has a large, wall-mounted plasma screen and CD player, plus a pool table, football table, and vending machines for snacks and drinks. You can also use the lounge as a comfortable place to discuss homework assignments between lessons.
