Charity Day Christmas 2007

Before Christmas, the Sixth Form held their annual Christmas Charity Day to raise money for different charities. This year, the focus was raising funds for a school in Nakuru, Kenya. Former student, Megan Shelton, who left last year, has been doing voluntary work in a school, just outside Nairobi and the money was to help fund materials for some new classrooms. Students paid £1.00 to have the privilege of dressing up for the day. Most followed a Christmas theme, though there was an option to come in something red, if you didn’t fancy a full outfit. Some chose to go for general fancy dress. There were some excellent costumes such as Chloe Oughton’s Christmas Present and Adam Clowery’s Darth Vader, as well as plenty of elves and Santas.

Some staff and students also produced games and others made cakes to sell. The total sum for this charity amounted to just over £125 which was an excellent effort.

Five students were also raising funds on the day for a local hospice. Year 13 students, Allie Thompson, Joe Wright, Mitchell Brooke, Joe McKenna, and Tom Love volunteered to have their legs waxed to raise money. Staff and students had sponsored the lads over £200, and the refectory was packed to witness the event, which took place over the entire lunchtime! There were some sore legs at the end, but they all agreed it had been worth it for such a large amount of money. The onlookers certainly enjoyed themselves as did the girls who carried out the waxing!
