Road Safety

An ongoing CAS activity for a few sixth formers is a road safety project. Miss Bunton arranged a visit for a group of year 12's, to the Peaks Lane Fire Station in Grimsby, which took place on the 4th of December 2009. This entailed an experience of a mock car crash and rescue. Tom Over, a student of the IB, was playing the victim and he was cut out of the car by the fire service team. Miss Bunton organised the visit as it is "a part of 'Tollbar Traffic Team.'" which is the name of the ongoing CAS project, set up by Miss Bunton.

According to Miss Bunton the group was set up "with the aim to help improve road safety awareness in the Tollbar area and to do what we can to reduce the numbers of deaths and serious injuries from road traffic accidents in the area."

There have also been events such as "Bright day" and a "cake sale" which have taken place, in order to raise money. The students were able to raise just over £200, which is a great achievement. Also with comments such as "the bright day was not only a fun day but also raised money" and "I was glad to be a part of it all, it was great fun." Apparently the 'Tollbar Traffic Team' have only just begun, with a next project lined up which is said to entail the students delivering safety workshops to the school and a wider community.
